Flower Mound distance runner breaks UIL state track meet record in 3200 championship

The country’s top distance runner Natalie Cook of Flower Mound broke the UIL Class 6A state meet record during the 3200 meter run on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Cook, an Oklahoma State signee, finished the race in a time of 9:48.25 while breaking the previous record by nearly 10 seconds. That record was held by Denton Guyer’s Brynn Brown last season.

Brown is now running at North Carolina.

Of the eight laps, Cook’s best came on the first lap in a time of under 1:10. She led throughout the entire race. By lap 2 she was ahead by eight seconds. By lap 3, it as 13.

By lap 4, it was 18 seconds.

Cook won by nearly 35 seconds.

She also broke the 6A and state record after winning the 1600 final in a time of 4:40.29.

In both races, Flower Mound swept the medals going 1, 2 and 3. The Jaguars won the 6A team title.

Cook also holds the national record in the 5K with a time of 15:25.
