Baseball recap (4/19): Grapevine Faith pitcher Ks 18, Carroll shuts out Timber Creek

Keller 3, Byron Nelson 2

A single to left from Zach Abell scored Aiden Howard in the bottom of the fourth inning and Keever Vincent retired nine of the final 12 batters as the Indians beat the Bobcats in District 4-6A on Tuesday.

Keller improves to 10-1 in district and 18-5 overall.

Byron dropped to 5-4 and 12-8-1.

Keller grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning off back to back RBI doubles from Grant Simpson and Ty Zahradnik.

The Bobcats tied it in the third. Troy Romero had a lead off double to left and scored on an RBI triple from Ryan Pruitt.

Pruitt scored on the Riley Nelson sacrifice fly to center.

Vincent struck out the side in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. He finished with 11 strikeouts in five innings. Nick Robb allowed one hit and struck out five in two innings of relief.

Romero struck out seven in 3 2/3 innings for Byron. Aedon Barron struck out three and didn’t allow a hit in 2 1/3 innings.

Grapevine Faith 4, FW Southwest Christian 2

Grayson St. Romain struck 18 batters as the Lions beat the Eagles in TAPPS District 1-5A play.

St. Romain allowed four hits and threw 107 pitches with 72 going for strikes.

Jackson Burns allowed four hits and three earned runs with 11 strikeouts for the Eagles.

Andy Neal went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Faith and Dawson Schumann drove in three runs.

Jordan Shepherd hit a homer for SCS.

Southlake Carroll 12, Timber Creek 0

Owen Proksch and Nate Rusher allowed one hit and struck out nine batters as the Dragons beat the Falcons in five innings during District 4-6A play.

Proksch didn’t allow a hit and struck out eight in four innings.

Carroll (21-8, 7-2) scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Proksch went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI. Nick Jones also hit a homer for the Dragons.

Max Reyes drove in three runs and Cole Bedwell went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Brady Miller drove in a run.

Arlington 10, Lamar 7

The Colts scored four runs in the second inning and five in the fourth to beat the Vikings in District 8-6A to clinch a playoff berth.

Alejandro Bustamante hit a two-out double to left and Preston Howard scored on a wild pitch in the first inning for Arlington (13-12, 6-3)

After a Ryan Ott lead off double in the second, he scored on a Kaden Wharton single to left. Lazaro Alvarado capped off the inning with a two-run double to make it 5-0 Colts.

Jackson Irons hit a two-run double to push Arlington to a 7-1 lead. A Braxton Hawkins RBI double and Ott RBI single gave the Colts a 10-1 lead over the Vikings.

Lamar (11-12, 5-4) scored two in the sixth on a two-run homer by Cooper Barnard. The Vikings added four in the seventh highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from Ethan Barnard and Nick Griffin.

Denton 5, Birdville 1

The Broncos scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Hawks in District 6-5A.

Denton (16-8, 7-4) pulls into a tie for second place in the district standings and a game back of first-place Birdville (19-5-1, 8-3).

The two teams will play at Denton on Friday.

Will Bush went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the sixth for Birdville.

Hawks’ pitcher Parker Hutyra allowed seven hits and two earned runs with 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Midlothian Heritage 8, Carrollton Ranchview 2

Rylan Figueroa and Caden Thorne combined for 12 strikeouts and four hits allowed, and the Jaguars clinched the District 10-4A championship.

Heritage improved to 19-5-1 overall and 9-1 in district.

Ranchview dropped to 8-13-1 and 2-8.

Jason Barela hit a homer, double and drove in two runs for the Jaguars. Figueora also homered for Heritage, which recorded 13 hits as a team.

Wayne Tackett had an RBI and Hunter Trojacek went 2 for 3.
