Girls basketball recap (2/17): Argyle remains undefeated and more from Fort Worth area

Argyle 56, Stephenville 41
The Eagles had a mini scare when they trailed by three in the third quarter, but came alive the rest of the game to rout the Honeybees in a Class 4A Region 1 area round game at Weatherford on Thursday night.
Argyle, the top-ranked team in 4A, stays perfect at 34-0 and advances to the regional quarterfinals to play the winner of Friday’s game between Bridgeport and Burkburnett. It’s Argyle’s 10th straight trip to the quarterfinals.
Argyle led a high-scoring first quarter 22-16, but the Eagles only managed four points in the second.
They still led 26-24 at intermission.
The Eagles out scored the Honeybees 30-16 in the second half.
Madi Lumsden led Argyle with 17 points. Caroline Lyles added 11 and Gabby Campbell had 10.
Jaylee Matthews led Stephenville (25-11) with 12 points.
Mansfield Timberview 52, Brewer 46
Brewer, fresh off its first playoff win in a long time, nearly erased a 13-point second half deficit, but Timberview hung on for the win in a 5A Region 1 area round game on Thursday at Arlington ISD Athletics Center.
Timberview (25-8), the top-ranked area 5A team, is headed to the regional quarterfinals to play district rival Legacy. The Wolves beat the Broncos twice in district play.
Brewer ends at 23-13. The Bears made the playoffs for the first time since 2004 and their win over Richland on Monday is considered to be the first since 1963.
Timberview’s Kamryn Wilson hit a layup and drew the foul, and after the free throw, the Wolves led 41-28 late in the third quarter. The Bears used a 9-2 run to pull within 43-37 at the five-minute mark of the fourth. The lead got down to four after a layup from Julie Kasonga.
Eryn McKinzie nailed a three and Brewer made it 45-42 midway through the period. Kasonga hit a pair of free throws and the Timberview lead was down to one with three minutes left.
But former all-area MVP Desiree Wooten hit a big basket with two minutes left and Wooten assisted on a TaMaiya Mims layup to make it five with seconds left on the clock.
Chrishawn Coleman led Timberview with 18 points. Wooten added 13. Mims had eight.
McKinzie led Brewer with 16 points. Aolani Woldai and Kasonga, both freshmen, added 15 and 12 points. McKinzie is a sophomore.
Timberview opened the game with the first eight points, but Brewer led after going on a 13-2 run. The Wolves answered with a 7-0 run and then led 29-25 at halftime.
Lake Dallas 49, Burleson Centennial 41
Centennial kept up with Lake Dallas for most of the game, but the Falcons, winners of District 6-5A, were able to pull away late to beat the Spartans in a 5A Region 1 area round game at Arlington ISD Athletics Center on Thursday.
Lake Dallas (31-4) advances to the regional quarterfinals for the third straight season to play Mansfield Summit, which eliminated Wichita Falls Rider 77-70 on Thursday.
Centennial ends the season 20-17.
There were three ties in the first quarter. Centennial guard Amyria Walker hit a mid range jumper while Lake Dallas led 15-14 after the opening period.
Alexis Mayner converted on a three-point play to give Centennial a 19-18 lead with three minutes left in the second quarter. But Lake Dallas scored five of the final six points with back to back Mackenzie Buss to Najhaia McCoy layups.
The Spartans pulled within 25-22 in the third on a Jordyn McNeal layup and the Falcons made it 29-24 following a Jorja Elliott put-back. Camryn Richardson nailed a three from the corner and LD led 40-33 after three.
Mayner hit another three-point play for Centennial in the fourth, but the Spartans couldn’t get closer than six points. Mayner, Walker and Haylie De La Rosa, who hit three three-pointers, all led Centennial with 11 points.
Elliott led LD with 11 and Bailey Broughton added nine. Buss chipped in eight. Allie Buchanan had seven.
Kennedale 78, Dallas Carter 57
Kennedale junior guard Reagan Jackson poured in 35 points as the Wildcats downed Dallas Carter in a foul-filled 4A Region 2 area-round game on Thursday at Midlothian High School.
The teams shot 82 free throws on the night as four players from Carter (20-8) and two from Kennedale (30-6) fouled out, including Lady Cowboy’s leading scorer Kayla Crowder (23 points) with 1:04 left in the game.
Carter coach Danielle Butler was tossed after a technical foul early in the fourth quarter, one of six technical fouls called on the Lady Cowboys on the night.
Crowder, a quick sophomore point guard, gave the Wildcats fits all night driving the lane and either scoring, drawing fouls, or having her misses corralled by teammates.
Carter out rebounded Kennedale 41-28 with 21 offensive rebounds. Taylor Moore (17 points) and Rylan Jones (9 points) had 10 rebounds each.
Kennedale never trailed after jumping out to a 14-1 lead on the strength of two Jackson three pointers. Jackson equaled Crowder in drawing contact, hitting 17 of 22 foul shots. Jayla Jackson-Allen was 11 of 11 from the line for the Wildcats on her way to 17 points.
Mansfield Legacy 45, Granbury 33
McDonald’s All-American nominee Sirviva Legions scored a game-high 20 points and the Broncos eliminated the Pirates in a 5A Region 1 area round game at Cleburne on Thursday.
Legacy (22-14) moves on to play district rival and 8-5A champ Timberview in the regional quarterfinals.
Granbury ends at 22-14.
The Broncos led 13-9 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 32-17 by intermission while holding Granbury to eight second-quarter points.
Granbury out scored Legacy 16-13 in the second half.
Savannah Catalon added 10 points for Legacy while Maddie Griggs chipped in nine. Nina Parker and Ella Hamlin led the Pirates with nine and seven points.
This will be Legacy’s second straight quarterfinal appearance and fifth in seven seasons.
Mansfield Summit 77, WF Rider 70
The Summit Jaguars out scored the Rider Raiders 20-10 in the first quarter and never wavered during their 5A Region 1 area round win on Thursday in Jacksboro.
Summit (23-11) moves on to the regional quarterfinals to face 6-5A champ Lake Dallas.
The Jaguars won the second quarter 15-14 to extend the lead to 11 by halftime. Then they held the Raiders to 12 in the third quarter while increasing the margin to 54-36.
It’s Summit’s first trip to the quarterfinals since 2018 when the program reached the regional final.
