Basketball recap (2/8): Mansfield girls win on senior night and more from Fort Worth area

Boys

Waxahachie 65, Mansfield 50

With the game tied at 34 midway through the third quarter, the Indians used an 18-2 run to pull away from the Tigers in Mansfield during a District 11-6A game on Tuesday night.

Waxahachie stays in good position for a playoff berth.

Joseph Lankford hit a three and the Indians went up 42-36 with two minutes left in the period. Lankford hit another three from the corner and the lead went up nine. Kambren Drummer converted on a three-point play and Andreas Lane made it 60-43 after his three with three minutes left in the game.

Lankford scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half. Parker Jefferson had 14 of his 18 points in the first half as the Indians led 27-25 at halftime.

Waxahachie led 13-10 after the first quarter. Lane’s three gave the Indians a 17-14 lead and Jefferson and Cameron Williams traded baskets. Sterling Butler hit a three-point play and then a 3-pointer to tie the game at 21.

Lane and V’Zarion Roberson each had nine. Aidan Washington led Mansfield with 15 points. Williams and Butler chipped in 12 apiece.

Byron Nelson 63, Keller Central 48

Finley Bizjack made program history with the first triple double as the Bobcats beat the Chargers in District 4-6A on Tuesday night.

Bizjack posted 21 points, 10 rebounds and a school-record 12 assists.

Lindsey Conner added 16 points for Byron. Mason Jones led Central with 21 points.

Birdville 70, Colleyville Heritage 65 OT

Chase Henderson dropped a team-high 21 points and the Hawks edged out the Panthers in overtime during District 6-5A play on Tuesday night.

Gehrig Normand added 16 points for the Hawks.

Birdville led 32-27 at halftime, but Heritage came back in the third. The Panthers out scored the Hawks 19-12 in the period to grab a 46-44 advantage heading into the fourth.

Sammon Johnson led Colleyville with a game-high 25 points.

Brewer 64, Azle 62

BJ Williams made a layup with 14 seconds left and Julian Perez had a key block as the Bears beat the Hornets in Azle in District 5-5A on Monday night.

Azle, which trailed by as much as eight, was also down 52-47 at the end of the third quarter. Gavin Dean, who scored a game-high 26 points, hit a contested layup to tie the game at 54 and then hit a long 3-pointer to give the Hornets a 57-56 lead midway through the final period.

Dean scored all of Azle’s 15 points in the fourth quarter, but Perez hit a three from the corner to tie the game at 59 and then Brewer took a 61-59 lead with two minutes left.

Dean got a put back basket and the Hornets led with 90 seconds on the clock. Azle had one shot left with 1.1 to play, but the shot was missed.

Perez had a team-high 18 points and Williams added 16. The Bears scored eight of the final points. Perez and Williams combined to make six 3-pointers.

Girls

Mansfield 47, Waxahachie 38

Aleksandra scored a team-high 18 points with four 3-pointers in her final high school game as the Tigers beat the Indians during Tuesday’s senior night.

The Tigers honored six seniors after the game.

Waxahachie led 16-12 in the second quarter and both offenses stalled. But Kameron Chambers sparked a 7-0 run to push Mansfield ahead 17-16. Clayton hit a three and Ashlyn Martin converted a Brianna Williams’ assist late in the period.

Lauryn Williams hit a banker and Bri Williams got an offensive put back as the Tigers continued to lead by seven points in the third. Kyla McBride did all she could for Waxahachie while scoring a game-high 23 points.

Martin hit a three and Mansfield led 34-31 after the third. The lead increased to 41-31 on a Clayton to Bri Williams layup with 2:51 left in the game.

LD Bell 84, FW Paschal 38

Hallie Rhodes and Jayden Rhodes scored 25 and 24 points to lead the Blue Raiders past the Panthers in the final regular season game.

Bell ends the season 26-8 overall and 12-2 in 4-6A, good for the second seed come next week’s playoffs.

The Raiders led 29-4 after the first quarter and 46-12 at intermission.

Colleyville Heritage 52, Birdville 22

The Panthers held the Hawks to single digits in all four quarters during their District 6-5A win on Tuesday night.

Emi Steele led Colleyville with 16 points. Kaylee Lewis added 11.

The Panthers led 11-6 after the first quarter and out scored the Hawks 17-3 in the second quarter.

Takida Jones led Birdville with 10 points.

Brewer 63, Azle 37

Eryn McKinzie scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the third quarter and the Bears pulled away from the Hornets in District 5-5A on Monday night.

Brewer, which is already playoff bound for the first time since 2004, is 7-2 in district play and a game back of Wednesday’s opponent Rider (8-1). A win over Rider will clinch a share of district and force a first-place tiebreaker.

Landri Seward led Azle with 10 points. Kendall Locke added eight. Seward hit a banker and the Hornets trailed 29-18 at intermission.

Aolani Woldai recorded a steal, got the ball back and made a layup as Brewer went up 40-20 after using an 11-2 run. Woldai threw a dime to Kailee Carr for two more and McKinzie hit a three as the Bears upped the lead to 51-33 after the third.
