Keller upsets SGP in boys basketball home opener and more from the Fort Worth-area

Keller 65, SGP 56
Parker Hannah drained a corner three with under two minutes left and Keller scored 11 of the final 15 points to upset Class 6A No. 20 South Grand Prairie, 65-56, in its home opener on Tuesday night.
Hannah, last season’s district newcomer of the year, hit two 3-pointers and scored seven points. Keller is 2-0 after a win against Richland during Saturday’s season opener.
Wyatt Bell and Sven Verloop led the Indians with 13 points apiece.
Vaughn Loud and Chandler Burnett scored 12 points apiece for SGP.
Trailing 34-31 at halftime, Keller opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run. Blake Bahr drained a fadeaway from just outside the paint for a 40-36 lead. SGP pulled within two before Verloop hit a three from the right wing.
Grayson Price, who scored nine for Keller, drained a 3-pointer to give the Indians a 48-42 lead at the end of three quarters. Keller had its largest lead of 53-45 early in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors trimmed the lead with a 7-2 run. Then Hannah hit his crucial three and Keller closed out strong.
LD Bell 66, Burleson Centennial 62
Justin Toto dropped a game-high 27 points and the Blue Raiders picked up the home win over the Spartans on Tuesday night. Tanner Taylor added 13.
Bell led 16-14 after the first quarter and 31-25 at halftime.
Jaidyn Peters and Assac Zachariah scored eight and seven points, respectively for Bell.
The Spartans were led by Bryce Robinson, who had 16 points and four assists. Jordan Weeks added 14 points and Braden Elrod had 12 points. Jordan Jenkins finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Arlington Bowie 75, Keller Central 74
DJ Campbell scored 23 points and Tyson Matthews added 20 as the Volunteers went to Central and picked up the win on Tuesday night.
DaeVon Scott led Central with 23 points. Mason Jones added 16.
Kelby Valsin chipped in 15 points for Bowie. The Vols led 19-17 after the first quarter and 43-40 at intermission. Central took the lead, 55-54 after three quarters.
Timber Creek 67, Arlington 38
Three Falcons scored in double digits led by Leo Luna’s 18 and Timber Creek went on to rout the Colts on Tuesday night.
Ethan Armstrong and Caleb Smith scored 11 and 10 for the Falcons, who dropped 27 points in the second quarter and led 41-16 at halftime.
Kam Vicente added nine for Timber Creek.
Tyler Burleson led Arlington with 14 points.
Girls
Keller 68, Peaster 52
Peaster gave Keller an early scare before the Indians pulled away in the second half during their 68-52 win at home on Tuesday night.
Keller, which is No. 8 in the Class 6A state rankings, got 20 points from Tulsa signee and reigning all-area MVP Cambridge Mathews, who hit four threes. Mallory McQuietor added 17 and made 5 of 6 from the line. Jaeden Gillam and Ava Dunagan chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Indians finished out the first quarter with a 20-5 run and led 20-8 with buckets from McQuietor, Dunagan and a 3-pointer by Mathews. But the Greyhounds, No. 11 in 3A, went to a full-court press and trimmed the lead to 26-22 with scores by Payton Hull and Marley Fadden.
Peaster tied the game at 29, but Keller closed on an 8-2 run with a tough contested layup from Mathews, a layup by Sam Breeding and a late steal and buzzer beater from Gillam.
The run extended to 15-0 after Keller scored the first 11 points of the third quarter. Dunagan nailed a pair of buckets and Mathews added another three. McQuietor and Mathews helped Keller lead by 16 after three quarters. Keller pushed the lead to 20 in the fourth quarter.
Hull, an ACU commit, scored a game-high 25 points. Brooklyn Bosher added nine. Both players were named to the all-area team last season.
Timber Creek 59, Mansfield Legacy 58
KJ Walker continues her triumphant return with 19 points and the Falcons upset the Broncos on the road on Tuesday night.
Legacy is the top-ranked Fort Worth-area team in Class 5A and No. 5 in the state rankings.
Deja Lumsden added 15 points for Timber Creek and Emelie Ezukanma chipped in 13. Aniya Anderson scored 10.
Saginaw 57, Chisholm Trail 22
Freshman Camille Williams dropped a game-high 30 points and senior Suni Davis added 17 as the Rough Riders routed the Rangers on Tuesday night.
Erika Mize and Nekya Baker added five and four points, respectively for Saginaw.
Justin Northwest 52, Aledo 29
Avery McConnel scored a game-high 18 points and the Texans won at home over the Ladycats on Tuesday night.
Sydney Nicholson scored eight for Northwest, which got out to a 17-5 lead after the first quarter. The Texans outscored Aledo 13-7 in the third and 14-9 in the fourth.
Kandle Boggus led the Ladycats with 10 points and Addy Hebel and Claire Byars added seven apiece.
Colleyville 47, Southlake Carroll 44 OT
The Panthers had four players with at least eight points and Heritage edged out the Dragons in overtime on Tuesday night.
Heritage led 10-6 after the first quarter and 19-18 at halftime. Carroll held Heritage to just five points in the third quarter, but Heritage outscored the Dragons 17-12 in the fourth to force overtime.
Kaylee Lewis led the Panthers with 14 points. Boston Hundley chipped in nine and Emi Steele and Hannah Berry added eight apiece.
Camryn Tade led the Dragons with a game-high 21 points.
