Boswell takes down Haltom in key district game and more from Fort Worth area in Week 9

Boswell 38, Haltom 20

Ezra Carter and Sawyer Farr helped power Boswell to a 38-20 win over Haltom with 293 combined rushing yards and all five touchdowns on Friday night in a District 3-6A game at home.

Carter toted the ball 36 times for 244 yards and Farr had 226 total yards and four scores as Boswell (3-4 overall, 2-3 district) kept its playoff hopes alive with two games left.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 17-0 lead and stretched it to 31-7 late in the third quarter thanks to two takeaways that led to points.

Boswell racked up 480 yards on the night while limiting Haltom (3-5, 3-2) to 313 yards.

South Grand Prairie 34, Arlington 27

South Grand Prairie erased a 10-point fourth quarter deficit with 17 unanswered points to stay in the playoff picture out of District 8-6A on Friday night at Gopher-Warrior Bowl.

SGP (6-3, 3-2) fell behind 27-17 after three quarters, but got a field goal, forced three Arlington punts and scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:28 left to complete the comeback.

A.J. Newberry had both touchdowns for SGP in the fourth quarter and three for the game on top of his 137 yards rushing.

Arlington (2-6, 1-7) did not trail the entire game until the final 88 seconds when Newberry scored the game winner.

Waxahachie 43, Mansfield 25

Waxahachie turned a two-score deficit into an 43-25 win over Mansfield Friday night at home to end a two-game skid.

Despite falling behind 14-0 after one quarter and 17-7 midway through the second, the Indians (5-3, 3-2 in District 11-6A) were able to outscore Mansfield (4-4, 2-3) 36-8 the rest of the game.

Jayden Becks had 162 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead Waxahachie.

The Tigers got touchdown runs from Sergio Kennedy and Tyrell Croom to build their early lead. However, Waxhachie’s defense limited Mansfield to just nine first downs on the night and 246 total yards.

Having dropped two straight, Mansfield sits in a tie with Lake Ridge – with Lake Ridge owning the tie-breaker- for fifth place.

Burleson 55, Everman 28

Burleson (6-2, 4-1) broke open a close game at halftime, outscoring Everman 27-7 to notch its fourth straight win and take sole possession of second place in the District 5-5A Division 2 standings.

Everman (4-4, 3-2) slips into third, though tied with Mansfield Timberview, but owns the head-to-head tie-breaker.

Colleyville Covenant 28, Lake Country 0

In a rematch of the 2020 TAPPS Division 3 state semifinals, Colleyville Covenant was able to beat up on Lake Country again with a 28-0 win on Friday night.

Covenant now sits a game up on Lake Country in the Division 3 – District 1 standings with just two games on the schedule for each team before the playoffs.
