Week 3 recap

Euless Trinity 30, Colleyville Heritage 27

Euless Trinity avoided a big fourth-quarter collapse, holding on to take down Colleyville Heritage 30-27 Friday night at Mustang-Panther Stadium.

Oklahoma State commit Ollie Gordon ran 28 times for 201 yards and three scores, including Trinity’s final touchdown of the night with 3:57 left in the third quarter. At that point, Trinity (2-1) led 27-6 and would tack on another field goal in the fourth to go up 30-6 with 7:56 to play.

Colleyville Heritage (2-1), No. 2 in the Star-Telegram Class 5A rankings, scored four plays later on a Weston Smith pass to Mason Murdock for 36 yards to make it 30-13. Heritage then recovered an onside kick, but threw an interception four plays later.

On Trinity’s next play, the Trojans fumbled the ball and Heritage scored in three plays to make the score 30-20 with 4:22 left in the fourth.

Again, Heritage recovered an onside kick and scored on its first play with a Luke Ulrich 43-yard run to make it 30-27.

Trinity got the ball back and drained the clock by using its rushing attack to preserve the close win.

Southlake Carroll 31, Prosper 0

It wasn’t an offensive spectacle like the week before, but Southlake Carroll continues to roll on with a dominating defensive effort in a 31-0 win at Prosper.

Carroll (3-0) held Prosper (2-1) to just 170 total yards of offense and just nine first downs in the win. The defense also produced three interceptions of Prosper quarterback Harrison Rosar, who completed just seven on his 19 attempts for 103 yards.

Owen Allen led Carroll with 183 yards rushing on 21 attempts and had two rushing touchdowns on the night. Kaden Anderson was quiet, passing the ball just 10 times for 60 yards.

Carroll only held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter, but was able to put two touchdowns on the board in the second quarter to get some breathing room.

Keller Fossil Ridge 49, Arlington 42

Keller Fossil Ridge need a last-minute touchdown throw from Logan Cundiff to Daniel Cobbs to get past Arlington Friday night 49-42 on its homecoming.

It was a tight game early on as the team traded scores and punts on the way to a 26-20 lead at the half for Fossil Ridge (2-1). It was able to extend that lead to 35-20 midway through the third quarter after getting an Arlington safety and a touchdown run from Kye’Rele Payne.

Arlington (1-2) scored 15 straight to tie the score at 35 halfway into the fourth on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Ryley Zalusky to Adam Lemonds. Fossil Ridge scored on its ensuing drive, followed by an Arlington touchdown a minute later.

Cundiff marched Fossil Ridge down the field in a hurry on Fossil Ridge’s final drive to win the game. He finished with 231 passing yards and three scores on the night. Landen Chambers, who leads the Fort Worth-area in rushing TDs, also added three scores on the ground and 188 yards on 19 carries.

Richland (3-0) needed a fourth-down stop late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 34-30 win over Keller Timber Creek on Friday night at Birdville Fine Arts Athletic Complex.

Neither team scored in the frame, but after leading 27-17 with 4:16 left in the third, Timber Creek (0-3) scored two straight times to grab a quick 30-27 lead.

Forty-three seconds after coughing up the lead, SMU commit CJ Nelson hit Dominique Johnson for a 69-yard touchdown for Richland to regain the lead for good.

Both teams traded turnovers and punts the rest of the way until the end when Richland’s defense stuffed Alec Souimaniphanh for a loss on a fourth-and-1 run.

Boswell 32, Burleson Centennial 24

Boswell forced two turnovers in the fourth quarter to rally for its first win of the season against Centennial, 32-24 on Friday at Chisholm Trail High School.

The game was moved from Boswell due to construction of the school’s new football stadium.

Boswell (1-1) forced a Centennial (1-2) punt with 5:28 left to play and trailing 24-19. Then after a big run by Ezra Carter to the Centennial 10, Ty Dauer scored his second TD of the game to give the Pioneers the lead for good at 25-24.

The Pioneers forced a fumble and Carter would score from 36 yards out on offense for a 32-24 lead. Brentton Blair then intercepted a Centennial pass and Boswell was able to run out of the clock.
