Softball/Baseball recap: Haltom pulls off upset, Northwest gets walk-off over Colleyville Heritage

SOFTBALL

Haltom 6, Weatherford 2

Lindsey Oliver saved her best for last as she shut down the Fort Worth area’s top-ranked Kangaroos in the Buffs’ season finale. Weatherford came in with one loss.

Oliver went the distance and allowed six hits with 11 strikeouts. She added an RBI at the plate.

The Roos, who will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, drew seven walks, but left 10 runners on base.

Marissa Martinez’s two-run double gave Haltom a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Oliver and Martinez had back-to-back RBI doubles in the third. Martinez went 3 for 4 with three RBI.

Rachel Harris also drove in a run to make it 5-0. Lateesha Mendiola went 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

Richland 13, Lake Dallas 8

Jacey Lees homered, doubled and drove in five runs as the Royals out-lasted the Falcons in the regular season finale to help the program clinch a share of the District 6-5A championship.

The Royals are in a three-way tie for first place with Justin Northwest and Colleyville Heritage.

Three other Richland players had three hits, the team totaled 20, with Abby DeSanto (3-5, 3 RBI), Kylie Valencia (3-4, triple, RBI) and Jocelyn Pinto (3-4, double, RBI).

Madison McKay also homered for the Royals, who scored six runs in the fifth to extend their 6-5 lead to 12-5. Lake Dallas was led by Gracie Dover, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI.

Boswell 16, FW Paschal 6

A win Friday night plus a loss by Weatherford gave Boswell the outright district championship in 3-6A. Boswell secures a district title for the third straight season. The Pioneers are in their first season in 6A.

Boswell and Weatherford had split the season series and were set to play a first-place seeding game Monday night at LD Bell. The game is canceled with Boswell going to the postseason as a No. 1 seed.

BASEBALL

Justin Northwest 5, Colleyville Heritage 4

Carter Rasmussen’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave the Texans the walk-off win over the Panthers in a District 6-5A showdown Friday night.

Northwest had a 3-1 lead going into the sixth until Colleyville Heritage scored three times to take the lead 4-3. The Panthers got a lead off triple by Max Towchick followed by back-to-back singles from AJ Smith-Shawver and Brock Zimmer. Michael Goodman added an RBI fielder’s choice to push CHHS on top.

Facing its final out in the bottom of the seventh, Northwest tied it and sent the game into extra’s on an RBI single from Cole Barton, who went 2 for 4. Kegan Magee and Peyton Williams each went 2 for 3.

Rasmussen came on in relief in the fifth and didn’t allow a hit in three innings of work.

Boswell 5, FW Paschal 3

The Pioneers got redemption Friday night with a home victory over the Panthers in District 3-6A.

Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Boswell opened the frame with three straight singles from Tristan Tenorio, Marcus Rodriguez and Sawyer Farr.

Coleton Sedberry gave Boswell the lead with an RBI sac fly. Chase Plowman followed with a single and he was followed with another RBI sac fly by Brantley Gregory.

Wyatt Fielding went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Boswell. Rodriguez and Tenorio each went 2 for 4.

Boswell scored one run in each of the first two innings. Paschal tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fourth.

Southlake Carroll 9, Eaton 0

LSU commit Griffin Herring threw a two-hit shutout in six innings and Luke Gornell came on and struck out the side in the seventh to send the Dragons past the Eagles in a key District 4-6A showdown.

Herring struck out six batters in the start.

Scoreless through three, Carroll broke open the game with seven runs on seven hits in the fourth. The Dragons batted around the order and Owen Proksch led off the inning with a double and also had a two-out RBI double to make it 7-0.

Ryan Pehrson and Max Reyes each went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
