Softball recap: Richland, Bowie cap off crazy comebacks; Timber Creek, Burleson go unbeaten in district

Burleson 16, Everman 0
Brailey Wasik recorded a perfect game in her final home regular-season outing at Elk Stadium as Burleson beat the Bulldogs to complete an undefeated district championship in 8-5A.
Wasik (Sam Houston State) struck out 10 of the 12 batters she faced.
Olivia Marks’ two-run single ended the game via run-rule in the fourth. Audrey Schneidmiller (LA Tech) went 3 for 3 with two RBI. Beau Slade and Brianna Trevino also drove in two runs apiece.
Weatherford 3, LD Bell 2
A two-run triple by Peyton Contreras and solo homer from Bella Garcia was enough for the Kangaroos to get by the Blue Raiders. Lauren Belles pitched all seven innings allowing one earned run and striking out five.
Trailing 1-0, Contreras gave the Roos the lead in the second. Bell tied it in the top of the fifth when Brooklyn Carter scored on a Weatherford error.
Garcia homered half an inning later for the game-winning run.
Boswell 14, Euless Trinity 4
Emma Robertson (Houston) capped off her 18th birthday in style with a homer shy of the cycle in the Pioneers’ 3-6A victory vs. the Trojans. Robertson went 4 for 4 with six RBI.
Rayna Sadler (Ottawa) hit her third homer of the season and went 3 for 4 with four RBI.
Harleigh Russell hit her first career high school dinger and Hailey Evans went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Boswell scored four in the first, five in the fourth and four in the fifth to win by run-rule.
Haley Parker (Northwestern State) struck out seven in the complete-game victory.
Timber Creek 10, Southlake Carroll 7
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, the district champion Falcons scored nine runs in the final three frames for complete the undefeated district championship in 4-6A.
Saniya Hill hit a two-run homer in the sixth to extend the Timber Creek lead to 5-2. Hill homered again to spark a five-run seventh inning. Kennedy Bevers followed with a solo shot to deep right.
Anna Hunt led Carroll with three RBI. Mackenzie Rae went 3 for 4.
Arlington Bowie 29, Arlington 28
A football game broke out at Workman Complex in Arlington as the Volunteers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the wild walk-off win over the Colts.
With the win, the Vols clinched a playoff berth from District 8-6A, their first since 2014.
The Colts scored seven runs in the first and led 27-12 in the bottom of the fifth. That’s not a typo.
Bowie scored eight times in the fifth and seven in the seventh to force extra innings.
Richland 7, Lake Dallas 6
The Royals scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning capped off with Landri McKittrick’s two-run home run to beat the Falcons in 6-5A play.
Richland was down to its final out in the sixth when the rally started with back-back singles from Anissa Hill and Reese Davis. Hill scored on Davis’ hit which was followed by a two-run homer by Abby DeSanto to cut the lead to 6-5. The Falcons got a runner to second in the seventh, but Davis forced a pop up and strikeout for the win.
Shelby Nelson (Tarleton State) led LD with her 10th home run of the season and went 3 for 3.
Benbrook 15, Western Hills 0
It took just 2 1/2 innings for the Bobcats to dispatch the Cougars and capture the undefeated district championship for the second straight season (not including 2020 due to COVID-19).
The Bobcats are 10-0 in 8-4A this season. They went 10-0 in 2019.
Josie Goins allowed one hit in three innings of work.
Kendal Molinar was a triple shy of the cycle going 3 for with a home run, double and four RBI. Devin Dunn, Ashlie Alfaro, Meredith Anderson and Myranda Villanueva all finished with two RBI.
Benbrook plated seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and eight in the second.
