Senior Night: McKenna Leveling
As the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic forced the UIL, TAPPS and SPC to cancel the rest of all spring activities and state championships, the Class of 2020 has lost precious senior moments.
It includes the boys basketball state tournament, the last few soccer regular season games and all of the playoffs and the rest of the softball, baseball, golf, track and tennis seasons.
Now senior night will never come.
Following the lead of SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt, it’s time honor these high school seniors.
Today’s honoree:
Abigail Bramlett, Benbrook, Track, Cross Country, Softball, Wrestling
Bramlett is a four-sport letterman for the Bobcats, most notably softball as a three, most likely four-time all-district selection.
Her first sport was soccer when she was little, but has been playing softball the longest (14 years). She took to running, excelling in cross country and track for the past four years and signed her letter of intent in February.
Bramlett has also been wrestling for the past season.
Fun Fact: Bramlett is continuing her track career at Hardin-Simmons.
What do you love most about your sports:
Softball- It was my second home. It was a get away from the outside world and it made me feel good.
Track: It made me realize that if I work hard enough I would see results. I felt free being able to just run.
Cross Country- It always kept me in shape and I met so many awesome people.
Wrestling- It gave me confidence and my coach believed in me and pushed me. I learned to respect myself and my teammates.
High school accomplishments:
2017 - Defensive Player of the Year (softball)
2018 - Fighting Heart Award (track), 2nd Team All District Outfielder (softball)
2019 - Academic All District (track, softball, cross country), First Team All District Outfielder (softball), Regional Qualifier (track, cross country)
Lettered - Softball, Cross Country, Track, and Wrestling
What have you learned about the past few weeks: I have learned to value the time that we have because I never thought I would miss my final year of high school sports. I learned that I shouldn’t take anything for granted because you don’t know when it will all be taken away.
Who is your hero: Sydney McLaughlin
She uses her faith in God to become a better athlete.
Most memorable moments?
Softball: Going nine innings in the district playoff game against Western Hills and winning to become undefeated district champions
Track: Qualifying for Texas Relays
What will you miss about Benbrook:
I will miss my coaches because they taught me a lot of valuable life lessons. I felt I could always talk to them. They made sports fun and always challenged me to do my best even when I didn’t think I could.
Senior message:
Keep looking forward no matter what happens.
