Mansfield Timberview, which won 5A boys basketball title, recognized at State Capitol

Mansfield Timberview, which won the Class 5A boys basketball state title last month, made the trip down to Austin on Wednesday where they visited the State Capitol.

The Wolves were recognized by the House of Representatives for their state championship win over San Antonio Wagner on March 9 at the Alamodome.

Dennis Bonnen, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and Chris Turner, Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, greeted Timberview players and coaches.

Timberview defeated Wagner, 77-64, to capture its second state title in the past three years. The Wolves also beat Manor in the state semifinals to finish the season 38-2.

Senior guard CJ Smith, who was named Star-Telegram boys basketball player of the year, was voted state title game MVP after scoring 24 points in both state tournament games.

Seniors Trazarien White and Rodrigo Soares joined Smith on the 5A state all-tournament team.
