DFW baseball recap March 26: TCU commit throws no-hitter, Brewer upsets No. 15 Grapevine

Burl Centennial 13, Timberview 0

TCU signee Jacob Meador threw a no-hitter (error in the 7th), striking out 16 and went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI to send the Spartans past the Wolves in District 5-5A. He threw 88 pitches, 65 for strikes.

Dawson Barnes and Austin Marcantel had 2 RBI apiece and Kendall Earheart added an RBI in the 4th.

The Spartans (4-1 in district) scored 4 times in the 7th. Meador hit a 2-run triple to score Marcantel and Gabe Irwin.

Benbrook 16, Lake Worth 0

Devin Bennett was 2 walks shy of a perfect game, but did strike out 14 batters during a 5-inning no-hitter against the Bullfrogs. He threw 76 pitches.

Kyle Guimarin homered, tripled and drove in 3 runs for the Bobcats (14-3-1, 3-0 in 9-4A), who scored all 16 runs in the first 3 innings.

Travler Moore had 2 triples, a double and 3 RBI to hit 100 RBI in his career, and Landon Sawin led the team with 4 RBI. John Henson and Payton Poole added 2 RBI apiece for Benbrook, which registered 15 hits.

Brewer 5, Grapevine 0

The Bears scored 5 times with 2 outs in the top of the 8th to hand the No. 15 Mustangs their first loss in district play.

Will Intfen and PJ Sanders singled to start the rally and Intfen scored on Carson Ingram’s RBI double to right field. Jacob Brackett singled in a run and Gabe Hernandez cleared the bases with a 3-run double to left field.

Sanders went the distance, allowing 2 hits and striking out 4.

Brewer improved to 3-2 in 7-5A and 11-7-1 overall. Grapevine dropped to 14-5-1 and 4-1.

Carroll 5, Byron Nelson 2

TCU commit Cutter Sippel allowed 2 unearned runs and struck out 7 in 6 innings to help the Dragons get past the Bobcats in District 5-6A. Carroll improved to 13-10 and 5-0. Nelson dropped to 16-4 and 4-1.

Justin Grech picked up an RBI ground out in the 1st and the Dragons added 2 in the 2nd. Riley Garcia had an RBI squeeze that scored Grant Golomb. Golomb and Garcia had an RBI double and RBI single in the 3rd.

The Bobcats scored twice in the 5th on ground outs from Alex Paris and Matt Bailey.

Weatherford 3, Abilene 2

Landon Ellington drove in the go-ahead RBI single to score Chris Molina in the top of the 9th to send the Roos past the Eagles in 3-6A.

The Kangaroos improved to 16-6-1 and 3-2 while the Eagles dropped to 12-8 and 1-4.

Weatherford took the lead in the 4th when Mason Riney drew a bases-loaded walk and added to a 2-0 lead in the 5th on Pierce Morris’ grounder to shortstop. Jake Seglem scored on an Abilene error.

Abilene tied it the 6th on an RBI single from Josh Carroll.

Riney allowed 7 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 5 in 8 innings.
