DFW softball recap March 26: Senior hits 1st HR in Trinity win, Eaton, SGP earn shutouts

Euless Trinity 7, Richland 1

Playing softball ever since she was 6, senior Tierney Thomas belted her first career home run, a 2-run shot to lead the Trojans to a 4-run 7th inning and road win over the Rebels on Tuesday night.

Trinity wraps up the first round of District 3-6A with a 4-2 record and 19-5 overall. Richland drops to 4-2 in district.

The Trojans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Matti Brown just beat out a Richland throw at home. The Rebels tied it in the 3rd when Abby DeSanto hit her first homer of the season.

Mackenzie Lucio allowed 6 hits and struck 4 for Trinity. She tripled in the 5th and scored to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead and Brown scored in the 6th to extend it to 3-1.

Piper Hankins and Ashleigh Clark picked up RBI singles in the 7th before Thomas’ big fly to center.

Mansfield 20, Summit 3

Three hit home runs and Haley Morse went 4 for 4 in a big win for the Tigers to grab sole possession of 1st in 7-6A.

Mansfield (18-6, 7-1) had an 11-spot in the 1st and 5 in the 2nd. Reagan Hukill, Miyah Jackson and Zoey Johnson hit dingers while Morse drove in 3 and scored 3 times. Hukill and Jackson also drove in 3 and Kaleigh Miller had a team-high 4 RBI.

Kennedy Hardy and Emilee Watkins had 2 RBI apiece and the Tigers registered 16 hits.

Tori Flowers led the Jaguars (2-6) with a 3-run home run.

Eaton 3, Byron Nelson 0

Maddy Wright threw a 4-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters to push the Eagles to 6-1 in 5-6A and 19-1 overall.

Kennedy Laymance scored in the 4th, Chelsea Blankenship picked up an RBI double in the 6th and Kenzlee Zaher added an RBI ground out in the 7th for Eaton.

Sarah Diessner had 2 hits for Nelson (2-5) and Bella Weaver allowed 1 earned run and struck out 5.

SGP 2, Lake Ridge 0

Natalie Castillo threw a 2-hit shutout and struck out 6 as the Warriors knocked off the Eagles in 7-6A action. The Warriors improved to 6-2 in district while the Eagles dropped to 6-2.

The Warriors scored both runs in the 3rd. Mallory Stone picked up an RBI single and Aliyah Torres drew a bases-loaded walk.

Chloe Jones threw a complete game for Lake Ridge, allowing 6 hits and striking out 6.

Keller 14, Central 4

Tessa Galipeau homered and four others had at least 2 RBI as the Indians took down the Chargers in 5 innings. Alexa Langeliers went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and Brooke Davis had 2 doubles and 3 RBI.

Amanda DeSario tripled and drove in 2 and Hailey Jones went 2 for 3 and 2 RBI.

The Indians improved to 19-3-1 and remained atop District 5-6A at 7-0.

Sierra Manners led Central (0-7) with 2 RBI.

McKinney Boyd 11, McKinney 0

This week’s softball player of the week Kinsey Kackley only had 8 Ks and coming in averaging 20 in her past 7 games, but the sophomore pitcher allowed 2 hits and the Broncos won in 5 innings.

Diana Murtha doubled and drove in 3 for Boyd (19-9, 4-2 in 9-6A). The Broncos scored 4 in the 1st and 5th innings. Katy Loera had 2 RBI and Kayla Minst and Lily Downing added an RBI each.

Frisco Centennial 12, Lebanon Trail 11

Katie Walsh hit a walk-off 3-run HR and the Titans rallied three times to win in 9 innings. Walsh went 3 for 6 with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.

The Titans trailed 7-2 in the bottom of the 7th when Walsh started the comeback with her 1st home run of the night, a solo shot to center with 1 out. Guiliette Arellanes and Izzy Southgate recorded an RBI double and RBI single with 2 outs to cut it to 7-5, and Alex Byrd’s single tied the game.

Mia Forsythe had an RBI single in the 8th and the Trailblazers led 9-7, but the Titans tied it again with a 2-run HR from Tatum Wright.

Wright went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and Arellanes doubled and tripled. Danni Jostes went 4 for 5. Jane Horn went 3 for 5 with a HR for Lebanon Trail and Forsythe went 4 for 6 with 2 RBI.

Boswell 6, Grapevine 2

The Pioneers broke a 2-2 tie with 4 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th to remain perfect in 7-5A. Byrdie Skipper hit the go-ahead 2-run single and Angelique Scivicque added an RBI ground out.

Boswell (7-0 in 7-5A) went up 2-0 in the 3rd on a 2-run triple from Emma Blagrave while Grapevine (4-3) tied it in the 4th on RBI singles from Reese Lipe and Rylin Baker.

Julie Kennedy struck out 10 batters for the Pioneers.

Plano West 7, Allen 1

Tatum Boyd allowed 5 hits, 1 unearned run and struck out 8 as the Wolves knocked off the Eagles in District 9-6A. The Wolves scored 3 runs in the 4th and 6th innings.

Morgen Luster went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Chandler Gurney went 3 for 3 with an RBI. Jamie Cendana and Micayla Clark also drove in runs for the Wolves.

Peaster 2, Brock 1

Taci Tatum hit the go-ahead 2-run HR in the 5th to send the Greyhounds to a win in 7-3A. Peaster and Brock are 6-1.

Landry Felts went 2 for 3 with a double and her RBI in the 3rd gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Rylie Melton allowed 4 hits and struck out 8 for the Greyhounds while Brock’s Lauren Kizer struck out 10 batters and allowed 2 hits.

The Colony 10, Braswell 0

The Cougars improved to 6-0 in 8-5A and 21-2 overall after taking down the Bengals in 5 innings.

Karlie Charles threw a 2-hit shutout and struck out 7 and added an RBI at the plate. Olivia Wick went 3 for 3 with 5 RBI. Jayda Coleman went 3 for 3 with 4 runs scored and 4 stolen bases.

Adrianna Honderich and Michelle Tillapaugh also drove in runs.
