Three local players named to USA Today baseball, softball preseason teams
USA Today released its baseball and softball preseason teams and three players from Dallas-Fort Worth were named.
In baseball, Colleyville Heritage senior shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. made the 25-man roster. Witt is signed to Oklahoma, but is also projected to be a top 3 draft pick in this year’s MLB draft.
Witt hit 18 home runs and drove in 93 runs over the past two seasons and looking even stronger in his final year. He has hit nine home runs in 2019 for the Panthers, who are No. 2 in 5A at 5-0 in district and 19-1 overall.
Keller junior catcher Hayden Brown and The Colony junior shortstop Jayda Coleman made the softball team.
Brown, who’s committed to LSU, hit .508 with 31 hits, 31 RBI, 6 doubles, 2 triples and 6 home runs last season for the Indians, who reached the 6A Region I final. Keller is 19-3-1 and 7-0 in district this year.
Coleman, a lefty shortstop committed to Oklahoma, was an All-American last season after she hit .714 with 75 hits, 43 stolen bases, 19 doubles, 9 triples and 6 home runs. The No. 1 prospect in the class of 2020 has the Cougars 21-2 and 6-0 in district this year.
