Former Arlington Martin star, freshman running back has record day for the Rice Owls
Former Arlington Martin quarterback Juma Otoviano had himself an afternoon for Rice on Saturday.
Otoviano rushed 27 times for 2 TDs and a program freshman-record-tying 224 yards as the Owls beat Old Dominion 27-13 to snap an 11-game losing streak on senior day. Otoviano scored Rice’s final two scores, which broke a 13-13 tie.
His 80-yard run came with 42 seconds left in the third quarter and he added a 62-yarder with 7:05 to play.
It was Otoviano’s first career start as the Owls also snapped a 14-game conference losing streak. He entered the game having played in the past six contests with 38 rushes, 140 yards and 1 TD.
Otoviano’s performance was also recognized by ESPN. He earned himself a helmet sticker from host Adnan Virk.
Otoviano was a three-year starter for the Warriors. He threw for 1,022 yards and 8 TDs, and ran for 684 and scored 20 times as a senior after rushing for 1,481 on 169 carries and scoring 24 TDs as a junior.
