New look Mustang-Panther Stadium gets an opening date
Mustang-Panther Stadium in Grapevine is getting a new look that fans will soon get to experience.
It’s taking some time to complete the $18 million renovations, which started in December. Updated exterior, new press box, restrooms, concession stands and spirit shops were among the new additions.
Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage won’t be able to play a true home game during the first month of the football season. The school district was hoping the stadium would open to begin the year, but construction was delayed due to weather.
But good news is the first game MPS will host is Sept. 28, which was the original hope GCISD had back in May.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robin Ryan confirmed with a letter to the GCISD community on Thursday.
GCISD Community,
In May, I shared with you that the first three weeks of the 2018 varsity football season would be played at alternative sites after delays in construction were caused by rain and high winds.
I am excited to provide you with an update on Mustang Panther Stadium, including information on the first official home game of the season on Sept. 28 when Colleyville Heritage plays Newman Smith for homecoming. Grapevine Mustang fans will have the opportunity to experience the new stadium at their first home game when they play Birdville on Oct. 5.
Although we are able to play football at the stadium, there is still some work that will need to be completed after the September 28 game. The north side of the stadium, including walkways and paths, will be completed, while the south end of the stadium will still be a work in progress. Fans will still be able to access the south side concession stand, restrooms, and seating using a 10 foot wide walking path. A six foot tall fence will block access to the areas still under construction. The south ticket booth also will be operational.
I hope that you will pardon our dust, but the most important thing for our players and our fans is that they are able to experience Friday Night Lights at their home stadium.
I look forward to seeing our respective communities September 28 and October 5 enjoying the sights and sounds of varsity football under the lights at Mustang Panther Stadium!
During the varsity football game between Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage on Oct. 21, 2016, the district unveiled an initial rendering of the stadium, as well as some photos of what fans can expect from the new Mustang-Panther Stadium.
The work has been completed over the past two years using funds the district received through a $26 million Tax Increment Financing (TIF) payout resulting from the 1996 TIF agreement with the City of Grapevine to bring Grapevine Mills Mall to the area.
Approved by the GCISD Board of Trustees and the Grapevine City Council, the funds are used by the district on renovations to MPS, joint-use educational facilities and the joint fiber project with the City of Grapevine.
