Godley, Haslet Eaton win one-game baseball playoffs; Eaton softball rallies

BASEBALL

Godley 2, Kennedale 0

Texas A&M signee Brett Brown allowed two hits and struck out 11 as the third-ranked team in Class 4A won a one-game playoff at Brewer to advance to the regional semifinals.

Kennedale (24-7-1) had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the seventh, but Brown ended the game with back-to-back strikeouts.

Godley (27-1) led 1-0 in the second on a wild pitch and scored the second run on an RBI triple from Tad Thompson in the third.

Kennedale’s Bryce Hackett allowed five hits and struck out nine.

Haslet Eaton 6, Richland 2

Colby Fritchen went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and the Eagles were sparked by a three-run first inning to win a one-game playoff at L.D. Bell and advance to the 5A Region I semifinals.

The Eagles (28-8-1) got an RBI double from Sean Klein and RBIs singles from starting pitcher Jarod Seals and Fritchen in the first inning.

Matt Makarwich doubled and drove in both runs for the Rebels (25-9).

Zach Wilson and Bryan Burgos also drove in runs for Eaton, and Cade Winquest allowed one hit and struck out five in 3.2 innings of relief.

SOFTBALL

Haslet Eaton 8, Lubbock Coronado 5

The Eagles trailed 3-1 after five innings, but scored six times in the top of the sixth to win Game 1 of their 5A Region I semifinal series.

Game 2 is 4 p.m. Friday at Abilene Christian.

Texas Tech commit Kennedy Crites started the rally with a two-run double to make it 3-3. North Texas commit Jaden Middlebrook gave Eaton (30-8) the lead for good with an RBI single.

Vivica Hernandez and Kenzlee Zaher added back-to-back home runs.

The Eagles led 1-0 after the first inning on an RBI from Ashlyn Walker.

Forney 12, Mansfield Lake Ridge 1

Kansas commit Savanna DesRochers threw a no-hitter, struck out six batters and drove in five runs at the plate to help the Jack Rabbits win Game 1 in five innings at Lake Ridge.

Game 2 is 7 p.m. Friday at Forney.

DesRochers batted 2 for 4 with a double and Sadie Hewitt drove in a pair of runs.

Forney (28-6) scored five times in the second and fifth innings.
