UIL State Boys Golf Day 2: Highland Park takes home 5A, Brock's Leek wins silver
Class 6A
Austin Westlake maintained its lead to win the Class 6A state golf tournament at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown Tuesday.
The Chaparrals, who shot a 573 and were eight strokes better than Austin Vandegrift, captured their second-straight state golf title and ninth overall.
Southlake Carroll, in second place after Day 1, tied Dallas Jesuit and Houston Stratford for eighth with a score of 598. Plano West came in fourth.
Plano’s Tommy Boone won the bronze, and Arlington Lamar’s Caleb Hicks was eight strokes back of first place.
Class 5A
Dallas Highland Park shot a two-day total of 564 – more than 30 strokes better than the competition – to win the 5A state title at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
Frisco Centennial came in second after winning a playoff against Cedar Park.
Granbury was fifth with a score of 611 – 14 strokes behind the bronze.
Highland Park took home the gold and silver individual medals. Trip Carter, who was in second after Day 1, shot a 134, and Turner Hosch was right behind at 141.
Granbury’s Jake Holbrook shot a 147 and Fort Worth Arlington Heights’ Brandon Massey shot a 152.
Class 4A
Monahans won the 4A title at Apple Rock Golf Course in Marble Falls and denied Argyle its chance at a fourth-straight state championship.
Monahans shot a 615 – 11 strokes better than the Eagles.
Class 3A
Pottsboro won the 3A title with a score of 621 at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin.
Brock came in seventh place with a 685, but senior Garrett Leek did receive the silver after shooting 144. He was seven strokes behind Pottsboro’s Austyn Reily. Leek did improve his round with a 71 on Tuesday. He shot a 73 on Monday.
