TCU pitching coach Kirk Saarloos was named assistant of the year by college baseball recruiting and analysis web site D1baseball.com.

“With a pitching staff that was supposed to be in rebuilding mode, Saarloos went well beyond what was expected,” site editor Kendall Rogers writes, and calls Saarloos “one of the elite recruiters in college baseball.”

Saarloos and hitting coach Bill Mosiello both signed contract extensions this summer to remain at TCU. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle also signed an extension.

Saarloos pitched seven seasons in Major League Baseball, playing with the Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. He was part of the Astros’ combined no-hitter by six pitchers in 2003 against the New York Yankees.

He has been the Horned Frogs’ pitching coach and recruiting coordinator since 2013. The team has been to the College World Series the past three seasons.
