Which former TCU basketball star is joining Jamie Dixon’s coaching staff?
TCU men’s basketball is bringing back a former star with a new position on the staff.
The Horned Frogs announced that Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane will join the staff as the chief basketball officer. Bane played for the Horned Frogs from 2016-20 and is widely considered one of the best players in program history.
In his new position Bane will volunteer his time to be a special advisor to head coach Jamie Dixon. Bane will have the chance to be a mentor to players and serve as a liaison to the NBA.
“We are thrilled to welcome Desmond Bane as our Chief Basketball Officer,” Dixon said in a statement. “As a TCU graduate and six-year NBA professional, Desmond brings a unique combination of experience, perspective and passion for the Horned Frog basketball program, making him an outstanding fit for this role.”
Bane was a two-time All-Big 12 selection during his career for TCU and is the program’s all-time leader in 3-pointers (249), wins (84) and games played (141). Bane also ranks in the top five in scoring, made field goals and 3-point percentage.
Bane never missed a game in his career and became the first TCU player to earn first team All-Big 12 honors in 2020.
After his stellar career, Bane was drafted 30th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies, where he played his first five seasons. Bane was traded to Orlando last season.
