TCU baseball learns NCAA Tournament fate; did Horned Frogs survive bubble?
The TCU baseball team’s season is over.
The Horned Frogs (33-21) did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the field was revealed Monday.
TCU was one of the last four teams left out of the field, according to the ESPN selection show, along with Mercer, Michigan and Pitt. The last four teams in were Liberty, Kentucky, Texas State and Troy.
The Horned Frogs ranked lower in the prominent RPI metric (No. 46) than all the last four teams in.
TCU began the season ranked No. 10 in the country but endured an injury-plagued campaign and finished tied for sixth in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs were on the NCAA bubble after losing three of their past four games, including a one-and-done outing in the Big 12 Tournament.
Coach Kirk Saarloos took the Horned Frogs to the College World Series in his second season in 2023, but TCU has now missed the NCAA Tournament completely in two of the past three seasons.
Six Big 12 teams made the field. Regular-season and conference tournament champion Kansas received the No. 15 national seed; regular-season and tournament runner-up West Virginia got the No. 16 national seed; and Arizona State, Central Florida, Cincinnati and Oklahoma State also made the field.
Among Texas teams, No. 6 national seed Texas is hosting its regional against UC Santa Barbara, Tarleton State and Holy Cross. Texas A&M got the No. 12 national seed and is hosting USC, Texas State and Lamar.
UCLA is the No. 1 overall seed, followed by Georgia Tech, Georgia and Auburn.
