Did TCU beat Texas in the men’s tennis national semifinals?
TCU’s men’s tennis team has dominated Texas in postseason play over the last two seasons, but that streak ended Saturday as it lost 4-3 to the Longhorns at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Horned Frogs have owned the Longhorns recently, beating them in 2024 to win the national championship and beating them last year to advance to the national championship.
The Horned Frogs started off strong, winning the doubles point — they have not dropped a doubles point throughout the postseason. Duncan Chan and Rolland De Ravel won their match 6-3; Albert Pedrico and Cooper Woestendick won theirs by the same margin.
The Horned Frogs are a different team when they win a doubles point, going 26-2 after winning the point, and headed into the singles portion needing to win three of the six matchups to advance to the national championship. The Longhorns needed to win four.
The Longhorns won the first point of the match, Oliver Ojakaar beating Oliver Bonding in straight sets. The Horned Frogs responded with their own straight-set win from Roger Pascual Ferra and took a 2-1 points lead before the Longhorns tied the match with a Sebastian Eriksson win.
Pedrico won 7-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Abel Forager to put the Horned Frogs one point from victory, but the match would come down to the wire and a dramatic comeback from the Longhorns.
Former Horned Frog Sebastian Gorzny had a huge come-from-behind win over Chan, who squandered three match points, to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, That plus a win by freshman Kalin Ivanovski, who beat De Ravel 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, helped the Longhorns secure the win and move on to the national championship.
