TCU hopes third time’s not the charm against Texas in national semifinals
TCU will go for its third straight win over Texas on the biggest stage of college men’s tennis.
The sixth-seeded Horned Frogs will face the No. 2 Longhorns in the national semifinals at 9 a.m. Saturday in Athens, Georgia (streaming on ESPN+). The winner will advance to Sunday’s national title match against either defending champion and No. 1 seed Wake Forest or No. 4 Virginia.
Despite their seeds, Texas (28-6) is ranked No. 1 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and TCU (25-5) is No. 2. The Horned Frogs downed No. 3 seed Ohio State 4-3 in the quarterfinals Thursday, and the Longhorns defeated No. 10 Baylor 4-1.
TCU has gotten the better of Texas the past two seasons. The Horned Frogs defeated the Longhorns 4-3 to claim the 2024 national championship, then won again 4-2 in last year’s semifinals before their repeat bid fell short in a 4-2 loss to Wake Forest in the final.
This is TCU’s fourth straight Final Four appearance and eighth overall.
Junior Duncan Chan powered the Horned Frogs to the semifinals Thursday, rallying to defeat Ohio State’s Aidan Kim 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the deciding match.
