TCU men’s basketball adds junior college sharpshooter in transfer portal

TCU men’s basketball has added a seventh player from the transfer portal with the announcement of guard Gavin Murphy’s signing Tuesday.

The State Fair Community College transfer is coming off his best college season, averaging 10.8 points with 1.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 48.4% from 3-point range.

Murphy’s 3-point shooting could be a boon for the Horned Frogs, who ranked 12th in 3-point shooting percentage in the Big 12 last season.

Murphy, a 6-foot Calabasas, California, native, started his career at Ole Miss, then played at Eastern Florida State College in 2024-25 before heading to State Fair CC in Sedalia, Missouri.

It’s been a busy offseason for the Horned Frogs, who have seen major contributors from last year leave, including David Punch and Liutauras Lelevicius as well as talented younger players like Kayden “Bugg” Edwards and RJ Jones.

Besides Murphy, the team has also brought in the top junior college transfer portal guard in Trent Lincoln, who will likely play alongside the returning Brock Harding. TCU is also bringing back All-Big 12 forward Xavier Edmonds and other key contributors in Micah Robinson, Tanner Toolson and Harding.

The Horned Frogs will be looking to build on a successful season that saw them advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to top-seeded Duke.
