TCU women’s basketball lands elite shooter out of the transfer portal

TCU women’s basketball stayed hot on the recruiting trail with a second transfer portal commitment on Thursday.

North Carolina guard Lanie Grant announced her commitment to TCU on social media and immediately gives the Horned Frogs one of the best shooters in the country.

The 5-foot-9 sophomore averaged 10.8 points and 2.3 assists while shooting 42% from 3. Grant could be the best shooter TCU has had since Madison Conner, who helped lead TCU to the Elite Eight in 2025.

Grant started 29 games for the Tar Heels as North Carolina advanced to the Sweet 16. Grant played in 37 games as a freshman and averaged 7.3 points and shot 35% from 3.

Having knockdown shooters is essential to TCU’s pick-and-roll system and Grant is the exact type of player Mark Campbell has had success with.

Grant joins Stanford forward Lara Somfai in TCU’s transfer class so far. The Horned Frogs are just getting started as the program needs to find another point guard, wing and has to fill out the roster after multiple departures via graduation and the transfer portal.

Big 12 Player of the Year Olivia Miles and first team All-Big 12 forward Marta Suarez are off to the WNBA while starting forward Taylor Bigby is out of eligibility.

TCU also lost starting shooting guard Donovyn Hunter, Taliyah Parker, Aaliyah Roberson and Emily Hunter to the transfer portal.
