TCU women’s basketball guard Donovyn Hunter is entering the transfer portal, she announced on social media Monday night.
The All-Big 12 Defensive guard has been a key cog the past two seasons for the Horned Frogs as one of the best defenders in the country.
“The two years I’ve had at TCU, I’ll always be grateful for,” Hunter said on Instagram. “Thank you to my teammates, coaches and everyone who poured into me. These relationships mean everything. ... With that being said, I’ll be entering the transfer portal for my final year. Excited for what’s next.”
Hunter averaged a career-high 10.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game as she started all 38 games for the Horned Frogs during their Elite Eight run this season. As a sophomore, Hunter started 21 games and emerged down the stretch in TCU’s first run to the Elite Eight with Hailey Van Lith and Sedona Prince.
Hunter transferred to TCU before the 2024 season after spending her freshman season at Oregon State. Hunter helped the Beavers reach the Elite Eight as she started 34 games.
A proven winner and versatile guard, Hunter will be on the top options in the transfer portal for most teams. Hunter has mostly played shooting guard in Fort Worth, but could look for a place that allows her to be more of a primary ball handler in her senior season.
Her departure only adds to the rebuilding job head coach Mark Campbell will need to do this off-season as TCU must replace Big 12 Player of the Year Olivia Miles and first team All-Big 12 forward Marta Suarez along with starting wing Taylor Bigby.
Hunter is the third TCU player to enter the portal, joining freshman center Emily Hunter and senior power forward Aaliyah Roberson. Roberson missed all of this season with an injury.
