TCU football lands edge rusher in transfer portal

TCU football continued its surge on the recruiting trail with another commitment Wednesday.

The Horned Frogs added Western Kentucky edge rusher Koron Hayward to the class when he took an official visit to Fort Worth. Hayward announced his commitment on Instagram.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 248 pounds, Hayward could play defensive end or at stud, TCU’s hybrid pass rushing position that was handled by Devean Deal and Jonathan Bax this season. TCU must replace both players after Deal graduated and Bax entered the transfer portal.

This season Hayward played in 11 games and produced 19 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks, three quarterbacks hurries and an interception. Hayward was also voted to the Conference USA all-freshman team in 2023.

Hayward will be a junior next season.

Hayward is the eighth transfer portal commitment for TCU, joining a class that includes quarterback Jaden Craig (Harvard), running back Landon Walker (Colorado School of Mines), wide receiver Jeremy Scott (South Alabama), offensive lineman Noah McKinney (Oklahoma State), linebacker Michael Short (Virginia Tech), safety Jacob Fields (Louisiana Tech) and punter John Hoyet Chance (Louisiana Tech).
