TCU football finds likely replacement for Josh Hoover in transfer portal

TCU football has landed its first transfer portal player of the offseason, as Harvard quarterback Jaden Craig committed to the Horned Frogs on Sunday, the Star-Telegram confirmed.

Craig signed with TCU hours after it was reported that former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover committed to Indiana.

A 6-foot-3 senior, Craig is Harvard’s all-time leading in passing yards with 6,074 and touchdowns with 52. This past season Craig completed 208 of 338 passes for 2,869 yards with 25 touchdowns with seven interceptions while leading Harvard to its first FCS playoff appearance.

Craig had drawn some buzz as an NFL draft prospect, with ESPN’s Mel Kiper ranking him as a top-10 quarterback prospect for the upcoming 2026 draft. Craig opted to spend one more season in college before heading to the pros.

Craig is rated the No. 19 transfer quarterback according to 247Sports.

With one remaining year of eligibility, Craig fits nicely with TCU’s timeline at quarterback as the Horned Frogs will return redshirt freshman Adam Schobel next season and will also have true freshman Jack Daulton on the roster.

Louisiana Tech’s Jacob Fields picks TCU

Craig wasn’t the only transfer to sign with TCU on Sunday, as 247Sports reported that Lousiana Tech safety Jacob Fields also signed with the program. Fields was voted Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA.

Fields had 90 tackles with the Bulldogs this season, including 50 solo stops, and also picked off three interceptions this season. Fields was a big pickup for TCU as the program needed to replace All-Big 12 safety Bud Clark and senior nickel safety Austin Jordan.

With quarterback and safety taken care of, the next big priority for TCU will be cornerback, where the program needs to bring in at least one starter-quality player to join Vernon Glover and Gil Jackson.

A starting linebacker is another position of need for TCU with the departures of Kaleb Elarms-Orr and Namdi Obiazor.
