TCU women’s basketball lands Arizona State transfer Kennedy Basham

TCU women’s basketball continued its hot streak in the transfer portal with two more recent transfer additions.

Arizona State transfer forward Kennedy Basham and Cal forward Marta Suarez announced their intentions on social media platforms to come to Fort Worth.

TCU women’s basketball added another top transfer Friday night as Cal forward Marta Suarez announced her commitment to the Horned Frogs on her Instagram page.

The duo are the fifth and sixth transfers to commit to TCU this off-season following the Horned Frogs’ appearance in the Elite Eight.

Listed at 6-foot-7, Basham is an experienced forward that should bolster TCU’s rim protection. Basham averaged 5.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks last season for the Sun Devils as a junior. Basham started 25 of the 32 games she appeared in.

Basham spent the first two seasons of her career at Oregon, where she started 24 games in 2023 and averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Suarez announced her commitment to the Horned Frogs on her Instagram page on April 11.

Suarez was a productive forward for the Golden Bears last season as she averaged 12.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Cal went 25-9 and reached the NCAA Tournament last season.

Suarez, originally from Spain, started her career at Tennessee in 2020 and was voted SEC All-Freshman after starting 14 games. She missed the 2021 season with a lower body injury.

Suarez spent one more season at Tennessee before transferring to Cal in 2023. She started 34 games and led the team in rebounding (6.9) while finishing second in scoring (11.9).

TCU will likely use Suarez to fill the void left by Agnes Emma-Nnopu. Emma-Nnopu was a gritty, versatile forward who attacked the glass as a rebounder and was capable of knocking down outside shots.

Suarez isn’t the shooter Emma-Nnopu was, but she is coming off a season where she shot a career-high 32% on four attempts per game.

With Suarez in the fold, TCU has a case for having the best transfer class in the country. The Horned Frogs signed Notre Dame transfer Olivia Miles, who was projected to be a top three pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft. TCU also bolstered its backcourt depth with Texas A&M transfer Taliyah Parker, a former top-60 recruit at South Grand Prairie in the Class of 2024.

TCU has also signed Kentucky center Clara Silva, a 6-7 post player who could be next year’s version of Sedona Prince.

For the third straight off-season Campbell has put together one of the top transfer portal classes in the country and has the Horned Frogs in good shape to build off of last season’s historic run.
