Schobel earned Offensive MVP honors for his performance.

“Man, that kid can deliver the ball,” Malakoff coach Jamie Driskell said of Schobel. “ ... We thought we could get to him a bit, but he bought himself time. He is very accurate on the run.”

His teammate, Grayson Rigdon, was also a key contributor with 119 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Schobel, a four-star prospect, passed for 3,734 yards and 53 touchdowns as a senior. He also added 575 yards and 13 touchdowns on his legs.

“It has been a long ride,” Schobel said. “And what a way to go out. It’s everything we’ve dreamed of -- winning one. And how fitting to go out like this. It’s special.”

Schobel is the No. 32 recruit in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports.

An extensive family legacy: Columbus & TCU

Adam’s first cousin, John, plays for Columbus as a running back and linebacker. In the state championship game he was named the Defensive MVP, tallying 10 total tackles and three sacks.

“John (Schobel) is tough,” Columbus coach Matt Schobel said. “He brings it every day in practice. What he did today is what he does every day. ... Every play, he is going full speed, and he played great today. Our whole defense played great.”

John Schobel, a senior three-star recruit, is also signed to play for the TCU Horned Frogs.

“It’s really cool that I get to go play with my cousin and family,” Schobel said. “But right now, I’m just excited to celebrate with my guys. Proud of this team.”

Both John and Abam ended their high school careers with championship success, giving the Dallas-Fort Worth football fans a preview of their playstyles. TCU is 18 miles away from AT&T Stadium.

Aaron Schobel, Adam’s uncle, played for TCU from 1997 to 2000 prior to nine seasons in the NFL.

Adam’s father, Matt Schobel, played for the Frogs as a tight end from 1998-2001 before playing seven NFL seasons. He is also the head coach and athletic director of Columbus’ football team.

“It’s special having my family - kids, and nephews - on this team,” Matt Schobel said.

TCU has had quarterback signees win state championships in consecutive seasons. In 2023, Hauss Hejny led Aledo to its UIL record 12th state championship.

Similar to Schobel, Hejny also started his career at TCU with family connections. Hauss’ father, Jesse, played for TCU in 2004 and 2005, while his mother, JimAnne, played basketball and ran track and field.
