A day after TCU coach Sonny Dykes was named the AP Coach of the Year, the first-year head coach added another honor on Tuesday.

The Football Writers Association of America selected Dykes as the 2022 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year. The Associated Press named Dykes Coach of the Year on Monday.

It’s the seventh National Coach of the Year recognition for Dykes this season. He has also received the honor from Walter Camp, ESPN Home Depot, Sporting News, CBS Sports and The Stallings Award.

Dykes will receive the iconic bust of the late Robinson, a College Football Hall of Fame coach at Grambling State for 55 years and winner of 408 games, at a Jan. 7, 2023, reception in Los Angeles prior to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Dykes led TCU to the program’s first College Football Playoff appearance after TCU was picked to finish seventh in the preseason Big 12 media poll.

The unanimous Big 12 Coach of the Year, Dykes became the first head football coach in TCU and Big 12 history to start 12-0 in his first season. He’s just the fourth head coach nationally since 1996 to accomplish the feat.

The Horned Frogs tied for a nation-high five wins over ranked opponents and TCU was the first Big 12 team to complete the regular season with a 12-0 record since Texas in 2009 and the first league member to go 9-0 in conference play since Oklahoma in 2016.

Dykes coached quarterback Max Duggan into a Heisman Trophy runner-up and recipient of the Davey O’Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Duggan is also one of five TCU All-Americans, which includes consensus choice Steve Avila at offensive guard and cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, who won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back.

Dykes will lead TCU against No. 2 Michigan in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31.
