TCU quarterback Max Duggan declares for NFL draft
TCU quarterback Max Duggan will not be returning his extra year of eligibility in 2023.
Duggan announced he was entering the NFL draft Sunday evening on his Twitter account.
“Being a student athlete at TCU has been the great experience of my life,” Duggan said in the statement. “It has helped me develop as a football player, earn a degree and become a better man...In light of my appreciation, I will be declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft.”
After not being named the starter for TCU after fall camp, Duggan took over midway through the season opener at Colorado after an injury to Chandler Morris.
Duggan led the Horned Frogs to the College Football Playoffs with a special year. Duggan won the Davey O’Brien Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting.
Duggan is ninth in the nation in passing efficiency with a 165.5 rating. He is tied for second among Power 5 quarterbacks with 16 touchdown passes of at least 20 yards and has accounted for three or more touchdowns eight times.
While leading TCU to a 12-0 regular season and appearance in the Big 12 championship game, Duggan led the league in passing efficiency, touchdown passes (30), passing yards (3,321), yards per attempt (9.0) and yards per completion (13.9).
Duggan showed improvement with his accuracy and touch in his first season under coach Sonny Dykes and offensive coordinator Garrett Riley. With his incredible season, Duggan has likely take a big leap on many draft boards.
With his athleticism and intangibles plus what he’s shown on the field, Duggan could be a mid-round pick, which didn’t seem like a possibility just four months ago.
“But first, we still have business to take care of,” Duggan said.
Duggan will lead the Horned Frogs against No. 2 Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. CT.
