Texas Longhorns slugger Ivan Melendez won the 2022 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award.

Melendez leads the nation with 32 home runs and 94 RBIs. He’ll be honored at an awards gala Nov. 17 in Fort Worth.

The award, which was created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, is open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in the country. The award is based on performance at the plate, academics, and personal integrity. Melendez was named one of three finalists last week.

The 22-year-old junior from El Paso has helped lead the Longhorns to the College World Series. They open play against Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Friday in Omaha, Neb.

Melendez is batting .396 with a nation-leading .888 slugging percentage and 213 total bases.

Previous winners of the award since its inception in 2017 include Texas Tech’s Hunter Hargrove, Dallas Baptist’s Devlin Granberg, Texas Tech’s Josh Jung, and East Carolina’s Connor Norby a year ago. There was no award in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
