TCU baseball is Big 12’s top team after series victory at Oklahoma State

TCU baseball has played its way to the top of the Big 12 standings with consecutive series victories over top-5 programs.

The 21st-ranked Horned Frogs won two of three games at No. 3 Oklahoma State over the weekend, capped with a 7-6 victory on Sunday afternoon. A week ago TCU swept then-No. 4 Texas Tech.

The Frogs (27-13, 12-6 Big 12) have won six of their last seven as they enter a week without any league games. TCU hosts Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night before traveling to Florida State for a three-game weekend series. Oklahoma State (27-13, 10-5) sits in second in the Big 12 standings followed by Texas (30-13, 9-6) and Texas Tech (29-14, 9-6).

TCU is the Big 12’s defending regular-season and tournament champions.

Sunday served as another sign that the Frogs are poised to make a stretch run. The best news was the return of left-hander Austin Krob. The opening day starter threw two scoreless innings of relief, highlighted by three strikeouts.

Krob hadn’t pitched since March 13 against Army.

Other highlights were Tommy Sacco continuing his rebound season with his eighth home run and reliever Augie Mihlbauer minimizing damage in a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning.

TCU and DBU are set for a 6 p.m. first pitch Tuesday at Lupton Stadium.
