TCU football made a recruiting splash on Tuesday, the day before national signing day.

The Horned Frogs landed a recommitment from four-star wide receiver DJ Allen out of Gladewater. Allen chose TCU over Florida, announcing his decision on social media that he was “1000% committed” to the Frogs and tagging head coach Sonny Dykes and receivers coach Malcolm Kelly in the post.

“First and foremost I want to thank my dad, mother, and brother for helping (in) guiding me through this process,” Allen wrote. “Secondly, thank you to all the colleges that offered me and gave me an opportunity to play at the next level. This was a very hard decision but I’ve chosen to take my talents to Texas Christian University.”

Allen originally committed to TCU in mid-August but decommitted from the program in November amid the coaching change from Gary Patterson to Sonny Dykes. However, Allen developed a strong relationship with Malcolm Kelly, one of three assistants to transition from Patterson’s staff to Dykes’ staff.

Allen is ranked as the No. 30 receiver prospect in the country, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is a four-sport athlete in high school, playing football, basketball, baseball and running track. He’s known for his speed, running a 10.82-second 100-meter dash as a junior. He finished fourth in the Texas 3A state meet in the 100-meter run.

TCU has had success recruiting the East Texas area and Allen becomes the next prospect from there. Kelly was an East Texas standout during his playing days at Longview, which is a neighboring town to Gladewater.

Allen, who is listed at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, is the third-highest rated recruit in TCU’s 2022 class behind Garland wide receiver Jordan Hudson and Garland safety Chace Biddle. Allen and Hudson are both top-30 receiver prospects in the country that TCU landed this cycle.

Allen is expected to sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday as part of national signing day. TCU could add as many as four players on Wednesday.

Other players in the mix for the Frogs include a couple of Louisiana players in three-star cornerback Ronald Lewis (Warren Easton High in New Orleans) and three-star running back Ajay Allen (Neville High School in Monroe). TCU is also still in the mix for three-star College Station defensive lineman Connor Lingren.
