TCU basketball’s Big 12 home opener vs. West Virginia postponed due to COVID protocols
The omicron variant fueling the current COVID-19 surge continues to wreak havoc on the TCU men’s basketball program.
The Horned Frogs, whose Big 12 opener Saturday at Kansas already was postponed, won’t play until Jan. 8 at the earliest as their scheduled home game Monday against West Virginia also has been postponed because of COVID protocols within the program.
All tickets purchased for Monday’s game will be valid for the rescheduled contest later in the season, the school announced Wednesday.
TCU’s scheduled home game Wednesday against Texas Southern previously was canceled. Fans with single game tickets for Wednesday’s game may exchange them for a future game, based on availability, or receive a refund. Email the TCU Athletics ticket office at tickets@tcu.edu with a preference.
The Horned Frogs, who last played Dec. 21 in a 90-55 victory over Grambling State, might end up going at least two and a half weeks between games. Their next scheduled matchup is Jan. 8 at home against No. 1 Baylor.
TCU is 10-1 this season and has won its last seven games.
TCU women’s game canceled
The COVID-19 interruption also has been extended for the TCU women’s basketball team.
TCU’s scheduled home game against Davidson on Wednesday was scrapped because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols with the Davidson program.
TCU’s next scheduled game is set for Sunday when the Horned Frogs open Big 12 play against Kansas. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs’ last three nonconference games have been canceled including Wednesday. They haven’t played since Dec. 12 during an 87-75 upset of Texas A&M.
