Doug Meacham is being retained by new TCU football coach Sonny Dykes.

The school announced Tuesday that Meacham is staying on as inside receivers coach, a demotion from his offensive coordinator and play-caller duties the past two seasons. But it’s a win-win for both sides with Meacham being able to stay home and Dykes keeping a respected coach with deep ties within the Texas high school coaching community.

Meacham, an Arlington Sam Houston product, returned to TCU as inside receivers coach for the 2020 season. He assumed play-calling duties that season from offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie and was promoted to the OC role last year. The Horned Frogs had the 37th-ranked offense in the country under Meacham last season.

Meacham’s first stint at TCU came from 2014-16 as co-OC with Cumbie. The Frogs had one of the country’s top offenses in that stretch, highlighted by consecutive top-10 finishes in 2014 (No. 3 in the country) and 2015 (No. 7 in the country).

Meacham is the third holdover from Gary Patterson’s staff, joining Paul Gonzales (safeties) and Malcolm Kelly (outside receivers) on Dykes’ staff.

TCU has formally announced nine of the 10 on-field assistants under Dykes — Garrett Riley (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), A.J. Ricker (co-offensive coordinator/offensive line), Ra’Shaad Samples (assistant head coach/run game coordinator/recruiting coordinator), Meacham (inside receivers), Kelly (outside receivers), Joe Gillespie (defensive coordinator/linebackers), Mark Tommerdahl (special teams coordinator), Gonzales (safeties) and Chidera Uzo-Diribe (defensive line).

The 10th assistant is expected to be Tulsa’s Carlton Buckels as cornerbacks coach but that hire has not been finalized yet.

Other notable additions to TCU football’s staff include Kaz Kazadi as assistant AD for human performance; Bryan Carrington as offensive analyst and recruiting coordinator; and Anthony Crespino as associate AD for football.

Collins in portal

TCU had another player enter the NCAA transfer portal this week.

Sophomore cornerback Donavann Collins has put his name in the portal. He had two tackles in six games for the Frogs in 2021. As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Collins had three tackles in seven games.

Collins joined the program as a three-star prospect out of Cedar Hill in 2019. He was the first commit of the 2019 class.
