TCU football lands commitment from three-star QB Josh Hoover
TCU football continues to build its 2022 recruiting class.
The latest commitment is three-star quarterback Josh Hoover out of Rockwall-Heath. Hoover, a one-time Indiana commit, announced his intentions to play for new coach Sonny Dykes on Monday.
“After praying and talking with my family I have decided that TCU is the best fit for me,” Hoover wrote on his Twitter account. “I am incredibly thankful for Coach Dykes and Coach (Garrett) Riley for the opportunity to play at TCU, and the role they played in the recruiting process. Can’t wait to get things rolling in Fort Worth. Go Frogs.”
Along with TCU and Indiana, Hoover also had interest from Arkansas, Arkansas State and Connecticut.
Hoover, who is listed at 6-foot-1, 206 pounds, threw for 3,252 yards on 191 of 300 passing with 40 touchdowns this season. Over his three years as a starter at Rockwall-Heath, Hoover threw for 9,953 yards with 108 TDs and 29 interceptions.
Hoover is the seventh commitment for the 2022 class. TCU’s class is ranked No. 72 in the country, according to 247Sports.
Dykes and his staff are garnering praise from the recruiting community for the work they’ve done in a short period of time.
“All the attention has been on the coaching changes and it’s overshadowed the tremendous job that #TCU has done on the recruiting trail the last week and half,” wrote Jeremy Crabtree, a senior recruiting editor for On3Sports.com.
DC update
TCU is entering the final stages of its defensive coordinator search, sources told the Star-Telegram on Monday.
A hire is expected within the next few days with a couple finalists emerging for the job.
One name to keep an eye on is Tulsa defensive coordinator Joseph Gillespie, who coached at Stephenville High (2008-14) before going to Tulsa. TCU is intrigued by Gillespie and his ability to run a 3-3-5 defense, which is similar to what Iowa State has run and had success with in recent years.
But Gillespie isn’t a lock.
“We are looking at someone else too,” a source said.
A name for that “someone else” isn’t known yet.
