Jamie Dixon reaches coaching milestone in TCU basketball’s victory over Pepperdine
Jamie Dixon has joined the 100-win club.
Dixon and TCU basketball bounced back from the first loss of the season with a 73-64 victory over Pepperdine in the SoCal Challenge on Wednesday night in San Juan Capistrano, California.
It marked the 100th win at TCU for Dixon, who is in his sixth season with the Frogs. He is the fifth coach to reach the milestone in TCU history. Dixon, who spent 13 seasons at Pitt’s head coach before returning to his alma mater TCU, started the season ranked 19th in active winning percentage (.686).
Dixon is the third-fastest coach in program history to reach the 100-win mark, doing so in his 172nd game.
TCU (4-1) took control of the game late in the first half, closing on a 21-7 run to lead 32-27 at halftime. The Frogs stayed in front the rest of the way.
Junior forward Emanuel Miller posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for TCU. It was his third double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Mike Miles finished with a team-high 16 points, while senior forward Chuck O’Bannon Jr. had 12 points.
“I thought we moved the ball around better and just some strange plays with turnovers, that was one of our problems on offense,” said Dixon, referring to the team’s 18 turnovers.
“But I was really excited about how we got a good performance from a lot of different guys. That was huge for us and a strength of ours going forward. We’re finding ourselves, but I think we got better as this tournament went on.”
Pepperdine (2-5) was led by Jan Zidek, who scored a game-high 17 points.
TCU returns home for its next game. The Frogs face Austin Peay at 7 p.m. Monday at Schollmaier Arena.
