It wasn’t all bad news for TCU football this weekend. A day after TCU fell to rival SMU in Fort Worth, it landed a four-star cornerback for its 2022 class on Sunday.

Jaylon Guilbeau announced his intentions to play for the Frogs in a social media post.

“Blessed to be a frog #GoFrogs,” Guilbeau wrote on his Twitter handle.

The Port Arthur Memorial product is listed at 5-foot-11 1/2 and 175 pounds, per 247Sports. Guilbeau also held offers from Texas, Alabama, Georgia and Arizona State.

“The Frogs needed defensive backs for their 2022 class and without a doubt Guilbeau is one of the top in the nation,” said Jeremy Clark, recruiting expert and publisher of Horned Frog Blitz. “He blends great size and athleticism at cornerback. He has great physicality and good change of direction. In TCU’s system, I see him more as a boundary corner rather than a field corner because of those traits I listed.

“This is a huge win on the recruiting trail by Jeremy Modkins. He battled Texas, Texas A&M and about 25 other schools including several from the SEC. This is the kind of player that can see early playing time for the Frogs.”

TCU’s lead recruiters for Guilbeau were Modkins and Paul Gonzales.

Guilbeau is the highest-rated recruit in the Frogs’ 2022 class to date and is the third four-star commit, joining wide receivers DJ Allen and Matthew Golden.

TCU has 10 hard commits for its class, which is ranked No. 8 in the 10-team Big 12 and No. 66 in the country, per 247Sports.

Poll watch

TCU is no longer in the “receiving votes” category in the latest AP Top 25 poll.

The Big 12 is still led by Oklahoma, which dropped to No. 6 following its close victory over West Virginia. Other Big 12 schools ranked include Oklahoma State (19) and Baylor (21).

Texas, Iowa State and Kansas State are all receiving votes.

Early line

Texas opened as a 6-point favorite over TCU, per Circa Sportsbook in Las Vegas.

TCU has gone 7-2 against Texas since joining the Big 12, but the Frogs are coming off a loss to SMU. Texas, meanwhile, routed Texas Tech 70-35 on Saturday.
