TCU lands the top JUCO big man in 2021 class. Meet 7-footer Souleymane Doumbia
The TCU men’s basketball team landed a big-time recruit on Saturday. Literally.
Souleymane Doumbia, a 7-footer out of Navarro College who is ranked as the top JUCO big man in the country for the 2021 class, announced on social media his intention to play for the Horned Frogs. The Ivory Coast native is the first commit of the 2021 class.
Doumbia posted on his Twitter account a picture of him in a TCU uniform, writing: “1000% Committed!”
Doumbia will provide another big-bodied center for the Horned Frogs. Junior Kevin Samuel could pursue a professional career after this season. If so, Doumbia could become his possible replacement. If not, Doumbia would provide valuable depth at the position behind Samuel for the 2021-22 season.
Doumbia is regarded as a three-star prospect and the No. 1 JUCO big man by 247Sports. Along with TCU, his final eight list of schools included Alabama, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State, Georgia, Houston, Mississippi State and Seton Hall.
Last season at Navarro, Doumbia avereaged 10.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and two blocks a game.
Doumbia has an interesting back story, coming to America from the Ivory Coast. He is originally from Mali and played at the now-defunct (and disgraced) Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte before landing at Navarro.
