TCU football lands two players on Senior Bowl’s Top 250; Texas A&M has eight

TCU football has sent at least one player to the Senior Bowl the past six seasons. There’s a decent chance that streak is extended to seven in 2021.

Linebacker Garret Wallow and wide receiver JD Spielman landed on the prestigious bowl game’s Top 250 list of NFL prospects. The Senior Bowl is viewed as one of the signature pre-draft events for aspiring pro players.

Wallow is coming off a standout junior season in which he led the Big 12 with 125 tackles in 2019. That was more than double the next guy on TCU’s list — safety Trevon Moehrig with 62. Wallow was named first-team All-Big 12 and honorable mention Big 12 defensive player of the year.

Wallow has received plenty of preseason hype going into this season, being named a preseason All-American and to the watch lists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, Bednarik Award, Butkus Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Wuerffel Trophy.

Spielman, meanwhile, comes to TCU after a standout career at Nebraska. He was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and led the Huskers with 49 receptions for a career-high 898 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Spielman is the only player in Nebraska history to record three consecutive 800-yard receiving seasons. He is hopeful to obtain an immediate eligibility waiver by the NCAA for the 2020 season, although that has yet to be officially approved.

Assuming Spielman is eligible, he’ll provide a veteran presence at receiver as well as being an option at returner for the Horned Frogs.

The Senior Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 30, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama. TCU is scheduled to start its season against SMU on Sept. 12 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
