TCU reportedly lands Nebraska transfer JD Spielman
TCU landed another big-time transfer.
Nebraska wide receiver JD Spielman is reportedly coming to Fort Worth, according to Jeremy Clark of 247Sports. Spielman is expected to be immediately eligible for the 2020 season.
Spielman joins former LSU defender and five-star prospect Marcel Brooks as notable additions the Frogs have made in the last week.
Spielman provides a proven receiver for a team that lost its best receiver, Jalen Reagor, to the NFL Draft. Spielman is the son of Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman.
Spielman had three consecutive 800-yard receiving seasons for the Cornhuskers, leading the team with 49 catches for 898 yards and five touchdowns last season.
TCU is looking to rebound from a disappointing passing season, struggling in Max Duggan’s true freshman season. TCU ranked ninth in the 10-team Big 12 in passing offense, averaging 203.7 yards per game, and last in pass efficiency (112.4).
But the Horned Frogs are confident in Duggan going forward. The hope is that he becomes more accurate after completing just 53.4% of his passes with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Spielman will provide a reliable and experienced target for Duggan.
TCU’s leading returner in receiving yards from last season is Taye Barber, who had 29 catches for 372 yards and no touchdowns. Tight end Pro Wells matched the team lead with five receiving TDs last season.
Reagor finished with a team-leading 43 catches for 611 yards and five TDs, landing with the Philadelphia Eagles in the first-round of this year’s NFL Draft.
