TCU could be scrambling for second game to fill; Prairie View game set to be canceled

The TCU football team might now be looking for a second game to fill on it’s 2020 schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Per Brett McMurphy, the Southwest Athletic Conference is going to announce a shut down of fall sports on Monday, thus canceling TCU’s game against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 12.

TCU already had its Sept. 5 season opener against Cal canceled due to the PAC-12 conference going to a conference only schedule.

Prairie View was slated to be the second game of the season and the home opener.

TCU is exploring all options to fill both games.

In regards to the Cal game, TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati said last week that he’s trying to find a game and, “Everyone who has had or will have a game canceled in the immediate future is [possible] at this point.”

The same is true for the Prairie View opening.

One possibility is UNLV, which had its season opener against Cal canceled.

The Big 12, ACC and SEC are all still trying to play full schedules even though the Big 10 and PAC 12 opted for conference-only games and some smaller conferences have canceled fall sports all together.

Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said last week that Big 12 will wait until late July to make a final decision regarding the 2020 season.
