Leon Bridges, Pat Green on the guest list for Gary Patterson’s virtual charity event
TCU football coach Gary Patterson and his wife Kelsey are throwing a virtual party to help raise money for local charities on Thursday night.
Patterson’s foundation is hosting a “Celebrate Community” virtual event that will feature local musicians, PGA Tour golfers and former TCU football players. It is free and open to the public with viewers being able to make donations and purchase raffle tickets for items during the event.
Among the guests include Grammy Award winners Leon Bridges and LeAnn Rimes, as well as country music star Pat Green. Patterson himself has made an album this offseason amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The event is geared towards helping charities that would have benefited from this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, which is being held without fans as the PGA Tour’s first event back amid the coronavirus pandemic June 11-14.
Patterson’s event, which is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., is raising funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Tarrant County, The First Tee of Fort Worth and other community projects.
“Kelsey and I have had the great pleasure of serving our community for the past 20 years and now more than ever, children need our support,” Patterson said in a statement. “We love Fort Worth and are proud of the virtual experience we are able to bring to your home as we make a big impact with good friends and talented musicians and athletes.”
This year’s Colonial features several TCU products in the field, including one of Patterson’s friends and pro-am playing partner J.J. Henry. Henry will become the active leader in consecutive starts at Colonial with his 19th this year. Fellow Horned Frogs Tom Hoge and Franklin Corpening are also in the field.
At the end of the day, the event is for a good cause and helping out one of Fort Worth’s iconic sporting events.
“The Charles Schwab Challenge is an integral part of the spirit of Fort Worth and we are honored to give back to charities working to empower children in our community,” tournament director Michael Tothe said in a statement. “We greatly appreciate Gary and Kelsey stepping up to bridge the gap of fundraising for these very deserving organizations in the Birdies for Charity Program.”
