TCU’s Wallow is already on the Senior Bowl radar for his ‘instincts and closing burst’

TCU has sent at least one player to the Senior Bowl every year since 2015. That streak has a strong chance of staying in tact in 2021.

Horned Frogs linebacker Garret Wallow is already generating early buzz from Senior Bowl officials going into next season. Jim Nagy, the bowl game’ executive director, posted on social media Monday morning about Wallow.

“TCU football had four players drafted in first three rounds in 2020 but one key returner the Senior Bowl can’t wait to see is Big 12 leading tackler WLB Garret Wallow,” Nagy posted on his Twitter account. “The converted safety stood out on junior tape with his instincts and closing burst.”

Wallow had a standout junior season in 2019, leading the Big 12 with 125 tackles. Of those 125 tackles, 18 were for loss including 3.5 sacks. He also had one interception and two QB hurries.

Wallow was named first-team All-Big 12 by the coaches and Associated Press, and was an honorable mention for All-Big 12 defensive player of the year.

Wallow’s play did not go unnoticed by scouts who watched TCU’s film closely last season. After all, the Horned Frogs had two first-round picks (WR Jalen Reagor and CB Jeff Gladney) and an early second-round pick (DT Ross Blacklock) among five players taken in the NFL Draft.

As far as the Senior Bowl, TCU has been consistently represented the last six years. Running back Darius Anderson had a solid showing in the game last year, scoring on a 75-yard wheel route. TCU could have had a couple more representatives (Gladney and right tackle Lucas Niang) but both were battling injuries.

In 2019, TCU sent both of its defensive ends in L.J. Collier and Ben Banogu. Prior participants include OT Tayo Fabuluje and CB Kevin White (2015), RB Aaron Green (2016), LB Josh Carraway (2017) and OT Joseph Noteboom (2018).

Praise for Moehrig

TCU safety Trevon Moehrig received praise over the holiday weekend as well. Pro Football Focus named Moehrig the most valuable safety returning to college football in 2020.

Nobody around TCU football would argue that.

Moehrig had a standout sophomore season with 62 tackles, four interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He also had two forced fumbles.
