TCU football’s top 2021 NFL Draft prospects: An early look

TCU football made history in this year’s NFL Draft.

The program had five players drafted, including multiple first-round picks for the first time since 1939. Can the Horned Frogs have similar success in 2021?

The short answer is no. The Horned Frogs don’t have any player who is being pegged as a first-round talent for the 2021 draft class. Heck, it’s early, but the Big 12 may go consecutive seasons without a top 10 pick as the conference’s top two prospects are offensive linemen (Oklahoma’s Creed Humphrey and Texas’ Samuel Cosmi).

But, as far as TCU is concerned, it does have several players who could be drafted and playing on Sundays in 2021. Here’s a look at the five best bets (a list that will surely change in the coming months):

LB Garret Wallow: Wallow led the Big 12 in tackles last season with 125, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors. Another big season will put him on NFL radars.

As with most players, though, Wallow’s true value will be determined by how well he tests at the combine and pro day.

DT Corey Bethley: Bethley has started all 25 games the past two seasons with a breakout sophomore season in 2018 (9.5 tackles for loss, including five sacks). That production dipped last season with only four tackles for loss.

For Bethley, he has to put together a strong senior campaign.

OT T.J. Storment: At 6-foot-7, 320 pounds, Storment has the frame that NFL teams covet. He started all 12 games at left tackle for Colorado State last season.

If Storment takes over for TCU at left tackle and holds his own against the Big 12’s top pass rushers, he could play his way onto NFL radars.

OT Austin Myers: A four-star recruit coming out of Manvel, Myers has started games for the Frogs at right tackle, right guard and left guard the past two seasons.

Myers, who is 6-foot-5, 303 pounds, has an opportunity to secure a full-time starting job in 2020 and his versatility will be an attractive asset to NFL teams.

S Trevon Moehrig: Moehrig would likely boost his draft stock by staying in school for all four years, but he could flirt with being an early entrant in the NFL Draft. Pro Football Focus graded Moehrig as the country’s top safety last season with 62 tackles, 15 passes defensed and four interceptions.

Something Moehrig would have to consider is the declining value NFL teams are putting on safeties as none were taken in the first-round of this year’s draft.
