Fast process! How TJ Storment went from committing to Purdue to landing at TCU

TJ Storment announced his intentions to play for Purdue on Thursday night, and was on his way to West Lafayette, Indiana with his parents.

Plans changed 15 minutes later when TCU coach Gary Patterson called and offered him a scholarship.

“They had been watching me, but did not realize I was so close to making a decision,” Storment explained to the Star-Telegram.

His family had stopped in Louisville for the night and, instead of continuing on to West Lafayette, they came to Fort Worth on a 6 a.m. flight Friday.

By Saturday night, Storment had flipped his commitment from Purdue to TCU. He’ll be coming to Fort Worth as a graduate transfer with a chance to win the starting left tackle job.

“The process was fast, but I know this is where I belong,” Storment said.

Storment started 12 games at left tackle for Colorado State last season, and could provide an answer to TCU’s tackle questions in 2020.

The Horned Frogs lost their top three tackles — all seniors — from last year’s team (starters Lucas Niang and Anthony McKinney and swing tackle David Bolisomi).

“I feel that God has blessed me with the ability to help this team win games at offensive tackle,” said Storment, who is 6-foot-7, 315 pounds.

Outside of the football reasons, Storment added: “The other important thing that drew me to TCU was my faith in Jesus! I’ve been rooting for the Frogs for a while!”

Among other schools interested included Texas, Miami and Florida State.

Storment started his college career at Old Dominion, taking a redshirt in 2016 and playing in five games in 2017. He then went the JUCO route, starting 10 games for Fullerton College in 2018, before landing at Colorado State.

Along with Storment, another incomer with potential to start at tackle is JUCO recruit Brandon Coleman. Returners with tackle experience include Austin Myers, Andrew Coker and Quazzel White.
