TCU lands commitment from three-star QB for its 2021 class; but three-star DB decommits
TCU football added another quarterback to its 2021 recruiting class on Thursday.
Trent Battle, a three-star prospect from Daphne [Alabama] High School, announced his intentions to sign with the Horned Frogs by verbally committing. He made the announcement on Twitter.
Battle, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, is ranked as the No. 26 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to 247Sports. He also had interest from Nebraska, Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas A&M, among others.
“Battle is a very athletic quarterback that fits TCU’s system perfectly,” said Jeremy Clark, recruiting guru and publisher of Horned Frog Blitz. “With the Frogs wanting to utilize their quarterbacks as both throwers and runners in their offense, Battle can certainly do both.
“What I like about him is his accuracy on the deep ball. He is extremely accurate downfield. He also makes good decisions as evident by his 22 touchdowns to just two interceptions as a junior in 2019. I personally feel the Frogs are getting a steal here.”
Clark went on to compare Battle to other dual-threat quarterbacks TCU has had of late such as Kenny Hill and Trevone Boykin.
Battle threw for more than 1,800 yards with 22 touchdowns and two interceptions last season. He also rushed for more than 500 yards and 10 TDs.
Battle is the second commit for TCU’s 2021 class, along with German quarterback Alexander Honig.
DB decommits
A few hours after Battle committed, TCU lost a commitment from Manor safety Devin Lemear, a three-star prospect.
Lemear announced he was decommitting via social media on Thursday night, although keeping TCU in “strong consideration.”
His subsequent posts were about offers he received from Baylor and UTSA recently.
