TCU football promotes Kenny Hill, hires former DB as analyst

Kenny Hill continues his rise in the college football coaching world.

TCU coach Gary Patterson has promoted Hill from graduate assistant to offensive analyst. Patterson has also brought in former safety Eric Buchanan as a defensive analyst.

Hill replaces Tony Savino in an offensive analyst role, while Buchanan takes over for Darrell Patterson as a defensive analyst.

Hill, the former Southlake Carroll standout, was TCU’s quarterback in 2016-17. He was a student assistant for the Horned Frogs’ coaching staff in 2018, and a graduate assistant in 2019.

Hill has established himself as a valuable voice in the quarterbacks room, being able to relate to the players as well as having an understanding of what offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie demands out of the position.

Hill threw for 3,208 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2016, leading the Frogs to the Liberty Bowl. In 2017, Hill threw for 3,152 yards with 23 TDs and eight interceptions in leading TCU to an Alamo Bowl victory and No. 9 ranking at the end of the season.

In 26 starts over his two seasons, Hill went 16-10. His 40 passing touchdowns in two seasons are tied for fifth-most in TCU history.

Hill had a stellar career at Southlake Carroll, earning 2012 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year honors and being named to the Star-Telegram’s first-team Super Team. He started his college career at Texas A&M before transferring to TCU.

Buchanan, meanwhile, joins the staff after spending the past three seasons at Lamar. He coached running backs in 2017, and safeties in 2018-19.

Buchanan had an internship at TCU in 2015, working with defensive backs and special teams. He played at TCU from 2003-06.

TCU begins spring practices later this month. The spring scrimmage is set for Saturday March 28 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
